Alberto Marí: "I'm looking forward to returning to Mestalla with the fans and helping the team with my goals"
Valencia CF striker, Alberto Marí, is in the final stages of recovery after the injury to the rectus femoris muscle of the right quadriceps that has kept him out of the field for more than 3 months. The Valencia CF player spoke to VCF MEDIA about his recovery process.
Injuries
"I had had other hamstring tears before and this time it wasn't the same feeling, it was something strange. I went straight down to the doctors and it was clear that it was a rupture, but I didn't think it was serious enough to have to have surgery and be out of the field for so long".
Recovery process
"It's tough. Especially when you come from playing some good games. The preseason was going very well, I was scoring goals and when you get the news you have to face it as it is. The first month was the hardest because you have to rest all day with your leg straight and you have to use crutches. It was a hard blow. My teammates, as well as the technical and medical staff, have always supported me. They have always been on top of me, asking me how I was doing and it's a pleasure and I wanted to thank them all.
Mestalla and fans
"Every time I go to Mestalla the support is incredible and just like when the news of the injury came out, I had many messages of encouragement and I am very grateful to the fans and I wanted to thank them as well. I hope to see them soon.
Back on the pitch
"I'm really looking forward to playing at Mestalla with the fans, helping the team, running and enjoying myself and, of course, scoring goals."
Injury assessment
"The decision, agreed with all our specialists and with our experience, was to assess that it was a serious injury, very important, and the decision was made that surgery was probably the best option. We spoke with the player and explained all the possibilities and reached a consensus on the final decision.
Current status of Alberto Marí
"At the moment he is feeling very well from the whole scarring process and is in a phase of returning to the activity in the field. We have gone through a phase of rest, then physiotherapy, then readaptation in the gym and now we are in a combined phase of physiotherapy, plus gym, plus readaptation in the field. This last one would be the final phase for the return to sports activity. The deadlines are within the plans we had foreseen. We have reached a situation that we expected. From there, we will see if we can gain 1 or 2 weeks. There's not going to be a substantial change in the timeline. We are on schedule.
Alberto Marí's professionalism
"We've seen that he's a very mature guy. When he had the initial injury, the first thing he did was trust our decisions and then he has always been a very hard-working guy, very professional. From the beginning he has been able to assimilate what his situation was and even the recovery times. Logically, when we enter these phases when you start to see the field close to you, you start to want more. He's a 10".
